4 Guinness World Records Held by Africans

Extraordinary feats are being made by ordinary people every day. On the African continent, incredible individuals are achieving such triumphs. As a reward, they’ve managed to secure their place in the world-famous Guinness Book of Records.

Most People Simultaneously Brushing Their Teeth

In 2003, a total of 300 000 students from 600 public secondary schools in Lagos, Nigeria set a new record for the most number of people brushing their teeth for one minute at 376 different locations.

Oldest Person To Enroll in Elementary School

In 2004, Kimani Ng’ang’a Maruge enrolled into Standard One at Kapkenduiyo Primary School, Eldoret at the age of 84. Not only did he set a new record, but he was also elected as the school’s head boy the following year!

Most Hours DJing

In 2016, Nigeria’s DJ Obi broke a Polish DJ’s record for the longest running marathon music mix. The old record was 200 hours – DJ Obi broke it by playing non-stop music for 240 hours.

Most Bee Stings Removed

In 1962, Johannes Relleke was stung approximately 2 443 times at the Kamativi tin mine in Zimbabwe. All the stings were removed and counted, and Relleke survived to set a new world record.
